a charcoal series
I called this body of work "Interlude" because it is my own pause of reflection on experiences with sex, sexuality, body image, and trauma.
By objectifying myself and juxtaposing it with stream of consciousness thoughts, I created an image of what it feels like to feel sexually empowered yet sexually burdened from society, from men, from women, from ourselves and the internal/external conflicts that arise from it. As an Asian American, it is a part of my culture to remain quiet about sex, sexuality, and trauma that there is space to share our stories.
All done in charcoal and gesso on 18x24 in paper, except for Dog! which is on 24x3s6 in paper.
